Bike Edmonton offers a limited number of free bicycle services to individuals who are referred to us by partner social service organizations. The program is meant to reduce barriers to using bikes as transportation for people 16 and over, with low income, from underserved populations.

If you work for an organization that supports people who are in need and wish to partner with us, please contact us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who does this program serve?

We accept referrals of those who are in financial need and are 16 years and older, in particular underserved populations. We have other programs for those who are under 16 years old: organizations working with youth can contact us to discuss services and opportunities.

What services are provided?

Bike Edmonton will repair bikes and offer free entry level parts for repair. We'll offer participants tutorials on fixing flats, maintaining the bike drive train, and a brief on-road skill development session if requested. We are able to teach people to ride, even if they have never ridden before, if that person has at least an average sense of balance. We can help some people with physical challenges. We have a small number of bikes to offer participants. If you are sure that the person will use the bike regularly to travel in the city, we might be able to outfit them with a bike.

What's the cost?

There is no cost to the program.

What is required of the referring agency?

Referring organizations only need to fill out the program application form. Bike Edmonton can work directly with the participant for the most part. If the referring organization can offer translation or other supports where needed, please let us know.
